Santorini island

Famous for its stunning caldera and the romantic sunset, Santorini with its incomparable beauty, has many sights to visit.
The island holds a wealth of churches and chapels accordant to the Cycladic architecture, beautiful whitewashed and blue-domed, in their majority.

A visit to Santorini’s museums and archaeological sites reveals a brilliant history of the island. A notable landmark is The Bronze Age settlement of Akrotiri which was one of the most important Minoan urban centers and port in the Aegean Sea. At the same area, the Akrotiri Lighthouse offers majestic images, especially during sunset.
A remarkable experience is also to visit one of Santorini’s wineries to taste fine wine varieties, the traditional product of Santorini.

Santorini is the largest island of a small, circular archipelago in the southern Aegean Sea, which bears the same name and is the remnant of a volcanic caldera.
The island was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history which occurred about 3,600 years ago. The eruption left a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of meters deep. It may have led indirectly to the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, 110 km (68 mi) to the south, through a gigantic tsunami. Another popular theory holds that the Thera eruption is the source of the legend of Atlantis.
